Think drawing is difficult? Don’t worry! With CRAY-PAS™, anyone can enjoy creating colorful art with ease.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sakura CRAY-PAS™, artist TaekoKuno(Taico) shows us how to draw a charming penguin using simple and fun techniques. No special tools needed—just your CRAY-PAS™ and a bit of curiosity.

STEP 1

Step 1 image

Start with Light Colors

Begin with soft, light shades like pale blue. CRAY-PAS™ colors blend beautifully when layered, so save the darker tones for later. This creates natural depth and a smooth gradient.

STEP 2

Blend with Light Tones

Gently layer lighter colors on top to blend and soften edges. You can also use your finger to smudge and blur—this gives a warm and natural look.

STEP 3

Use Pointillism for Texture

For fluffy feathers, try the pointillism technique. Dab different shades of blues—and other colors too—to add texture and depth. It’s fun and full of surprises!

STEP 4

 Smudge with Your Hands

CRAY-PAS™ can be used with more than just the stick—your fingers work too! Blending by hand adds a personal touch and helps create a cozy, soft finish.

Artist’s Tips from Taico

  • “Unexpected colors often turn out to be the best part.”

  • “You can always fix the shape later. There’s no such thing as a mistake.”

  • “You can layer colors to correct anything.”

  • “What matters most is putting your passion into it right now.”

Let’s Give It a Try!

There’s no need to hesitate—just pick up your Cray-Pas™ and start drawing. Whether you’re a child or an adult, CRAY-PAS™ makes creativity simple, spontaneous, and full of joy.
